300 members of the United Teachers of Northport walked on Laurel Avenue, in front of the central administration building, this evening at SUNSET, in a show of solidarity and unity. Unit members have been working under an expired contract since July 1st. While negotiations are ongoing, frustration is mounting.
Following the walk, the teachers, teaching assistants and nurses filed in to the meeting of the Board of Education. UTN President Antoinette Blanck addressed the Board stating, “We are here this evening in a show of unity, to show our support of our educational community, our programs and our children. … We ask that the Board show the same support of us.”
