Video: What’s Next for Public Schools?

The following is a recorded live broadcast posted on TheNation.com.  The original article can be found here.

Progressive educators and parents have been highly critical of the school reform agenda that prescribes standardized testing and charter schools as a response to the crisis of inequality in America. It’s clear what we are against. But what kind of reform are we for?  In this discussion on Sunday, October 5, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm EST, leading voices in education will explore what equity-based progressive change would mean for public schools in New York City and nationwide. Following a special appearance by New York City Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina, the panel discussion moderated by MSNBC’s Chris Hayes will feature AFT President Randi Weingarten, best-selling author Dana Goldstein, New York University Professor Pedro Noguera and the Advocacy Director of the AQE, Zakiyah Ansari.  Sponsored by The Nation and The New School for Public Engagement as part of the 10th Anniversary partnership celebration at The New School.
